313. “He talks like Ruth Gordon.”

The episode:Parts: The Clonus Horror,” ep. 811

The riff: Noted by Servo as an old guy rambles on and keeps insisting the hero accept his help. “C’mon, I’ll give ya a hand,” he repeats.

The explanation: Ruth Gordon was an Oscar-winning American actress and screenwriter. Although she was appearing in silent films as early as 1915, she is best remembered today for several films she made in the 1970s and 1980s, including “Rosemary’s Baby,” for which she won Best Supporting Actress, and “Harold and Maude,” wherein she played Maude. She was noted for her rapid-fire delivery, especially on talk shows, where it was sometimes hard to get a word in edgewise.

Novelty factor: I’ve seen “Rosemary’s Baby” and I know of “Harold and Maude,” of course, but I honestly didn’t know Gordon’s name.
