The episode: “Wild Rebels,” ep. 207
The riff: Noted by Tom as a pretty young thing walks up to the hero in a bar from behind, touching him on the collar and appearing to examine it.
The explanation: They’re referring to an tagline in a series of ads for Wisk Detergent in the 1960s and 1970s. In the ads, poorly laundered clothing would apparently hurl abuse at housewives, taunting them with the impossibility of removing “rings of dirt” from around the collar of their husband’s dress shirts. Wisk is still around today, but apparently not available everywhere.
Novelty factor: No clue from me.
