130. “The British Commish!”

The episode:The Deadly Bees,” ep. 905

The riff: Exclaimed by Crow while balding men interrogate the movie’s heroine about the details of a crime.

The explanation:The Commish” was an ABC comedy-drama series from 1991-1996 that starred Michael Chiklis as a “loveable but strict” police commissioner of a small New York town. The gimmick was that he was a former hard-boiled cop from NYC who moves out to the sticks to take on their daily crimes and troubles. It’s interesting to think that Chiklis went on to star as a much grittier cop on “The Shield.” Also, please don’t move on without watching these incredibly 1990s opening credits.

Novelty factor: It’s kind of odd that I don’t know this one, given that it’s from my own childhood in the 1990s, but it also shows my priorities at that time period. This thing was on from when I was about 5 to 10 years old, and I couldn’t have cared less about watching police procedurals or most sitcoms.

  1. I hate being one of “those guys” who correct every little MINOR error, but I assume you meant “The Shield,” not “The Wire.”

In the immortal words of Comic Book Guy, “Worst episose ever!”

  2. It says The Shield! Perhaps he fixed it? Anyway, those opening credits are VERY 90s. Remind me of the various openings of Blossom. Man, I loved that show. Anyway, I was never a fan of Chiklis. Can’t put my finger on why, exactly, but he just rubs me the wrong way. Perhaps its his character in The Shield that I’m thinking of?

What do you think, sirs?
